Getting a website is easier & cheaper than you think

Many people think about owning a website, but become overwhelmed by all of the options available in creating one. This will hopefully simplify the process & make it easier to understand.
First lets define what parts make up a website.

There are two parts that make up a website:

The first part is called the Domain Name. This is the word that comes after the "www." in the website address. When you register a domain name it has to be available in each of the Top Level Domain (or TLD) catagories set by icaan, the organization that governs domains. These TLD's we are most familiar with are .com .net .org .gov .biz etc. Registering a Domain is done annually and costs about $10 a year.

A domain registered in any TLD will make up a Uniform Resource Locator (or URL for short) This is the pointer we type in the address bar of our Internet Browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari etc.) An example of a complete URL would be Clear Cell Data's website:

http://www.clearcelldata.com

The URL's purpose is simply to point the web browsers to a specific website. Our cell phone numbers are very similar to URL's. They don't contain the person you want to communicate with, they just point your cell phone to their cell phone.

Remember: domains are pointers & not the actual website!

The second part of a website are the actual files holding the website format, pictures, text and video. This can be referred to as the actual site! These files are kept on a remote computer called a Server. A company that rents space on large capacity servers & supplies various websites high speed access to the rest of the internet is called a Website Host. When pay these companies to rent space on their servers, its called Hosting Service (Hosting for short) This is usually paid for monthly, quarterly or annually & typically can range from $4 to $25 or higher depending on how many pages, space, traffic and options you use.

Follow the prompts, pay the $10 and the domain is yours!
